The Skydio team combines deep expertise in artificial intelligence, best-in-class hardware and software product development, operational excellence, and customer obsession to empower a broader, more diverse audience of drone users, from utility inspectors to first responders, soldiers in battlefield scenarios and beyond.About The RoleWe are looking for an engineer with a focus on electric motors and propulsion systems to help model, architect, optimize, and refine the electric propulsion systems that power our drones.Please note:This role requires working on-site at our San Mateo, California headquarters at least three days per week.How You'll Make An ImpactStrong mathematical and physical understanding on motor power and loss mechanismsExcellent knowledge on finite element methodKnowledge on motor thermal modelingExperience on electric motor loss characterizationKnowledge on motor control theoryWhat Makes You a Good FitBeing able to model, architect, and optimize a propulsion system, from ESCs to motors to propellersUnderstanding electric motor losses and flux, develop test plans and perform measurementsDetailed motor design and optimization to optimize performance, efficiency and sizeExplore and design innovative motor technologiesCreate simulation model for thermal model development and system engineeringIntegrate and optimize with motor control team and ESCsFamiliarity with construction and manufacturing techniques of outrunner PMSMs in the ~500W size classEnd to end understanding of drone propulsion systems, from battery to ESC to motors to propellorsCompensation:At Skydio, our compensation packages for regular, full-time employees include competitive base salaries, equity in the form of stock options, and comprehensive benefits packages.
